Clinical and Statistical Observations in 47 Cases of Burned Patients


Abstract
We have undertaken to analysis our exgerience of thermal injury patients at Surgical department of the 17th Army Hospital Korea during a 4 yrs period from July 1965 to June 1969.
These 47 cases were analysed and summarized as follows;
1. The age distribution was restricted as the 18 to 35 yrs old because of Korean male soldiers.
2. Seasonal distribution: Winter 16 cases, autumn 12 cases, spring 10 cases and summer 9 cases. February was highest incidence 8 cases and June was 10 west incidence, 1 cases.
3. The cause of burn was frequently scading (45%), flame (32%) and explosive gas (23%) in order.
4. Vital signs;
B.P. was relatively stable except one case couldn¢¥t checked.
Body temperature was somewhat elevated as extent of burn surface.
35 cases (74%) showed slight hemoconcentration.
5. By the Rule of Nines, 30¡­40% B/S was 16 patients and lower extremity was most affected, 21 cases, in extent burn.
6. The degree of burn was 2nd degree (47%), 3rd degree (30%) and 2-3rd degree combined (26%)
7. The predominating organisms of wound infection were hemolytic staphylococcus, gram (£«) streptococcus, pseudomonas and gram (£­) bacilli, in order.
8. Treatment is performed fluid therapy by Evans and Brookes method, local treatment as debridment escharotomy, Furacin gauze dressing, Tub-bath and skin graft.
9. The overall mortality was about 6%.
